Animal Science department at The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is seeking 1-2 self-motivated PhD graduate student assistants in smart poultry farming. The individuals are expected to engage in cutting-edge research that addresses environment and welfare challenges in modern poultry production. Potential research topics include poultry environment management, sensoring, robotics, and welfare and behavior monitoring, and can be tailored based on the incumbent’s experience and interest.

Applicants should have an earned B.S. or M.S. in agricultural engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, animal science, poultry science or related degree by the time of hiring. Strong skills in one or more programming languages are expected. Experience in image processing, machine learning, deep learning, and robotics is highly preferred, but not a must.

A copy of the GRE score should be submitted upon application. In addition, international applicants need to meet the requirements on English proficiency with a minimum score of 80 on internet-based TOEFL or 6.5 on IELTS. More information of graduate program can be found in Animal Science website.

We offer tuition waiver and competitive stipend commensurate with education and experience.

The admission is expected in Spring, Summer, or Fall 2021.
